Lecturer in Criminal law and Researcher in the UNESCO Chair for Human Rights and Public Authorities
mikel.anderez@ehu.eusMikel Anderez Belategi is a Criminal Law Lecturer at the University of the Basque Country-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU) and a researcher at the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights and Public Authorities. He is also a member of the Research Group Hate Crimes in Spain: pending challenges, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Spanish Government (PID2020-15320GB-100).
His research focuses on the penitentiary execution of sentences, and he is the author of several publications on prison law, life imprisonment, hate speech and freedom of expression. In 2022, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled "Reintegration as an individual guarantee for persons deprived of liberty: an interpretive proposal in the light of international human rights standards and constitutional jurisprudence". He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Leeds (England) under the supervision of Professor Emeritus Clive Walker, an expert in the field of terrorism and the law.
