Professor in Criminal Law, University of the Basque Country
enara.garro@ehu.eusEnara Garro is Professor in Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of the Basque Country. Her principal research line deals with the comparative Law analysis of the post crime positive behaviour, tackling the impact of confession and compensation of crime damage in the field of the penalty determination. She has examined the possibilities of abatement, mitigation and release for members of criminal and terrorist organizations who cooperate with the judicial authorities and currently she works both on the field of the criminal statutes of limitations and penitentiary provisions applied to convicted on terrorism charges.Her research activity has always been funded by scholarships and research contracts: she obtained a pre-doctoral (2000 – 2004) and postdoctoral (2004 – 2006) scholarship from the Basque Government, as well as postdoctoral research contracts funded by the austrian foundation “Fonds für die Wissenschaftliche Forschung” (from 2006 to 2007) and by the Juan de la Cierva programme from the Spanish Science and Innovation Ministry (from 2008 to 2009). She has completed long-term research stays at the Philipps Universität Marburg (2001 – 2002), Johannes Kepler Universität Linz (2004, 2006 and 2007), Max Planck Institut für Ausländisches und Internationales Strafrecht Freiburg (2004 – 2006) and, since she got her Professor tenure, at the Columbia University in New York (2012) and at the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016).
At the moment she is member of two research teams: one of them is funded by the the Basque Government (IT 859-13) and directed by Prof. Lasagabaster Herrarte; the other one, funded by the Spanish Government (DER2015-64599-P) and directed by Prof. Landa, analyses the hate crimes and terrorism.
